It rained two and a half inches at Nandi Thota on Friday. It is raining every day–the kritthi rain, they call it–and this rain is good for the coffee. The beans are holding firm on the coffee plants, and we should have a decent crop this year. The air was fresh and restorative. There were all kinds of smells on the plantation, all pleasurable–even of these fallen figs whose sweet smell had turned.
